Scrubs

Client

As Scrubs returns to television in 2026, yU+co was invited to create a new opening title sequence. This season finds the former interns stepping into the roles of mentors, and the creative goal was to evolve the opening while maintaining continuity with the spirit of the original series. The sequence retains the iconic theme song, “Superman,” just as it was when the show first premiered in 2001. Like the original open, it follows multiple doctors and nurses moving through a hospital room filled with patients.

We art directed the live-action shoot, developing a previsualization that guided the motion-control shoot on the show’s hospital set. The production included 24 setups with 8 cast members, each take carefully choreographed with performers rotating positions so the shots could be seamlessly combined in post-production. As part of the 2026 refresh, analog on-set elements were updated with digital displays, including the final logo reveal. In place of the original physical x-ray, J.D. now swipes a digital image from an iPad to a monitor. The flickering transition into the creator credit remains, serving as a subtle nod to the original sequence.
