FROM THE VAULT: Christmas Cards

By: Cindy Tang. Posted Aug 3, 2010 at 10:58 PM.

Summer conjures up many images: the beach, barbecues, ... Christmas cards? Well, at yU+co. it does.

As we begin to brainstorm ideas for our annual company Christmas card, we dove into our archives to take a gander at cards from Christmases past.

One of Garson's personal favorites is the center card and rightfully so. Emblazoned with a traditional image of Jesus, "Happy Birthday to me from yu[+co]" is cheekily etched onto the bottom.

Christmas can't come soon enough for yU+co.

AGI: THIS IS NOT A POSTER

THIS IS NOT A POSTER

A few years ago, I was accepted to be a member of AGI. I was asked by Wang Xu, a designer friend of mine, to create a personal piece of motion graphic for the AGI student conference 2005 in Tokyo. I had my long time collaborators Etsuko and Ed working with me on this piece.

PROMAX BDA

Many attendees loved having the Promax/BDA conference back in L.A., and now there's talk it will come back again the year after next. If you didn't make it there, you missed out on a lot of cool parties and great seminars. Garson was one of the speakers for "Leaders in Design" and created his own little buzz with his infamous "fart" animation. It certainly became a hallway conversation piece, even with the women in the crowd. Requests are still pouring in for copies of the video, so for all you foolish fart fans who couldn't enough of it the first time, here is Garson's Art of the Fart.

Hot Tub Time Machine

By: Cindy Tang. Posted Jun 25, 2010 at 9:45 PM.

When yU+co. was given the task of setting the tone to the charmingly crude comedy Hot Tub Time Machine, we knew that we had a lot of work to do... a lot of really, really fun work. In what can only be described as a history lesson on acid, photo collages incorporating classic art, stock photos, and personal snapshots celebrate hot tubs through the ages.

To top off the film, the closing title sequence pays homage to Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home". The poppy humor of Rob Corddry's song cover is playfully accented by the 80's inspired graphics.

Shrek Forever After

yU+co. was proud to create the main-on-end title sequence for the recently released Shrek Forever After, the fourth and last installment of the beloved Dreamworks franchise. The artists were inspired by the build up and break down of theatrical stage sets to seamlessly move viewers through characters and key moments of the Shrek series as we remember the good times. Although it's heart-wrenching to finally ring down the curtain on Shrek, yU+co. couldn't have thought of a better way to say goodbye.
